Hey everybody! And welcome to my podcast, Homemade Music. This podcast is all about making music fresh from your house and how you can use music to relate to real life. I will take you through and analyze some of the songs I have made and how you could create your own. It’s quite simple.

*Plays fade-in song*

Music's all around us, and it's always unique in the way it's played. Whether there's a beautiful piano *subtle background music* piece or some crazy beat masher song *quiet background music*, there’s never a limit on what you can create. When you do create a song, it’s always worth it, and the adventure it takes to do it is just as worth it. Well, I’m here to tell you about how you could create a song, and it’s simple. If you have an Apple phone, you’d create your music similar to how I did it; with GarageBand. GarageBand is an easy music-making tool designed by Apple that allows you to create all sorts of things. I created this podcast with GarageBand so making a song isn't so difficult either. GarageBand works with loops most of the time – short musical chunks that you can play over and over in loops, hence the name. But starting out, you either starting on a live loop pad with a bunch of tracks you could add by recording to put them in your song that way, or just starting with nothing. You can record your tracks or vocals easily while adding loops from the loop-looking icon at the top. It has thousands of pre-recorded tracks Apple curated for you. Feel free to add them all. It also has many editing tools and sound distorters with multiple music setups. Away from that, I finished five songs with GarageBand, and I’ll share them with you during this podcast and teach you how I made them and how you could make your own. Here is my first song: Journey.

*Plays song Journey*

ree

That song is all about the journey, the journey through life, through darkness, through light. Just finding a way when times are crazy and when they’re beautiful because the light always shines brighter than darkness. And can you find a way out of the darkness? You bet. The road there seems to be difficult with many crazy things along the way; but there are also times when everything's beautiful. *Pause* So yeah, that song took some 9 or 10 hours. How I did it was: I took the pre-recorded loops from Apple’s selection and some of my own to create this wonderful song. Then after that, I recorded the loops in GarageBand and did some finishing touches, like changing track volume to make it more leveled out. Then I mastered it. Mastering is just a fancy term for making the volume evened out, which is called normalizing, and adding more effect to it. An example of this is adding more bass or extra drive to the song to make it more powerful in the way it's perceived. This does take some time, but I bet you could create your songs with this program way quicker than I could. All you have to do is try. You may know I’ve also finished 4 more songs, here's song number 2.

*Plays song False Illusions*

This song is called False Illusions because sometimes you can’t tell what’s real, and that’s what the song conveys. That life is a mystery and some things are real and good and some things, not so much. But when you step out of some of life’s Illusions, you realize that life isn’t an illusion, it’s a symphony, a false illusion. .. In some times in the song, and in life, things are calm while other times, there are so many overlapping parts, like in the final chorus, where you just feel overwhelmed with possible paths, possible realities in this life that seem like an illusion; but they're false. Because somewhere in the craziness, there’s peace. *Pause* Songs like that or just any song that have a giant meaning behind them make the music way better. But sometimes, it’s hard to get your meaning of the song out to people. That’s when commentaries of songs come in hand because they're good ways to convey your meaning. Basically, they're really just copies of the music with you talking about what the song’s about, which is a great way to express something; very similar to how I'm talking about my songs through a podcast. Another way to make your songs better is when when you think of how the song being played is affecting the person listening. Sometimes it's even good to do this before you start the song’s physical music. … My next showcase to you is called Summer Breeze, which is more of an upbeat tune that also relaxed with a more groovy feel. And after that, I’ll teach you how to use an app that's available for devices other than Apple.

*Plays song Summer Breeze*

Summer breeze encapsulates the idea, Life is Short. And yes, life is short. So let's live life to the fullest and not let it fly right past us. To live in the moment and be joyful, even when times suck. And do things get out of beat? You bet. But don’t let that stop you from being happy and living in the moment. ... Oh, and how to create your own music? All you need is either a phone or computer, but both will do fine too. If you have a phone that's apple, just use GarageBand, which is easy to figure out along the way, like how I did. But if you have an android phone, a good alternative is Music Maker JAM. It's free on all devices and helps you create music by combining loops. There are over 100 music styles to chose from and an 8-channel mixer that will give you plenty of room to channel your creativity. The app also allows you to record external voice so you can use the feature to record your singing or other kinds of sounds and add them to your song. It even can release your song automatically to a community of millions; GarageBand can't do that. I haven't used it myself but they say it's almost as good as GarageBand but GarageBand has more than 5000 music styles and a 255-channel mixer; having this much is probably unnecessary. GarageBand also allows you to record external voice. Hence, I recorded my whole podcast from an external voice, my voice. Although you can use Music Masker JAM on an apple device, I'd recommend you use GarageBand. … The next thing I'll play for you is Echo, which is about cherishing what matters. *echos*

*Plays song Echo*

*deep breath* I always seem to just stop and think about that song. All the harmonies and changes of the melody; it really seems to being speak yet no words. ... Now the song's concept; sometimes, the things we want seem to echo away, fade away, at moments, and that's when we realize what we actually wanted was already gone. Some parts of this song echo away at times, like in the beginning, but then come back later. Also, some voices bombard us at times, and although they sound like it's what we want, they still fade away with time because they don't belong, yet always seem to get replaced with more voices. That's what this song tries to convey, the realization of what we really want. And if what we want is good, then most of the time, it'll stick around longer. What is important to you? *pause* Stay tuned for the rest of this podcast! I'll be back after a one minute ad-break.

*Plays AD*

Thanks to Anchor for sponsoring that ad but I think you already know everything you need to create famous music but I still have one more song to present. I created a mash-up of a bunch of different rhythms and melodies that could hopefully speak to you in a way beyond my own understanding to help you realize how powerful music really is. Some parts of the piece may stand out to you more. So maybe, you'd prefer to make that type of music. Here's my Motivation Mashup.

*Plays song Motivation Mash-up*

Thanks, everybody for listening to my podcast, Homemade Music. I hope some of my music has inspired you to dig deeper into this kind of fulfilling life. But although my music I showcased to you didn't have any words, the music you create can be full of voice and meaning, there's nothing stopping you. Now you should know how and why to make music. But you need to make a choice to create music. It could just be for yourself to listen, or you could release it to the world, and there's so many ways to get it released. What are you willing to do to make your music? Tell your story? Go ahead. Express yourself.

*End of Script*

The Pictures Below Are How GarageBand Looks in the live loop grid (the squares) and the recorded grid which shows when each parts are played in the song. The first line is for Journey, second for False Illusion and third for Summer Breeze; Echo is not yet available.

The line in the middle of most of the images or distortion of the image are from combining the two images because I need to scroll down for the screenshot of the rest of the iPhone.
